Acu Update

I went to acupuncture on Friday. This is only my second time, ever. I went once before ER and didn't like the comment the lady said to me about octomom.  I just don't know how I feel about acupuncture. I try, I really try to relax. I don't mind the needles or anything it's just the relaxing part. My mind is going crazy, I am thinking about everything. I mean every little thing while I am trying to relax. Not good thoughts either.  I am just the type of person who has a hard time relaxing. I am going to give it a one more try, this time with someone else who specializes in infertility. I read all the benefits of acupuncture for IVF and I would really like it to benefit me. We shall see. Tomorrow I am going to call and schedule my endo biopsy. Also, we are leaning more towards only transferring one. That could change as it most often does daily.

  1. Hey Krista - I think it is totally ok not to like acupuncture. I had a negative experience with an acupuncturist in Memphis and it put a bad taste in my mouth about it. However, I did go for the acupuncture at CCRM before and after the transfer and highly recommend it. It was expensive ($225) but totally worth it. It put me in a peaceful place and it also helps your uterus relax which is good for implantation. You may want to think about saving your money towards that and not worry about getting a whole bunch before you go back out there. Good luck with your decision on how many to transfer- I have alot of blog commenters who think I am having twins even though I transferred 1. We shall see!

  2. I've only done acupuncture a couple of times too. I stopped mainly because of the additional cost - felt like I should save it all for the IVF cycles themselves. I did find it kind of relaxing, but not as relaxing as a massage! Given the choice, I feel like a massage does more for my mental/emotional state. Having said that, there are so many people that swear by it that I feel like there must be something to it. Good luck with that and with your biopsy - December is coming soon!

  3. Well, I like acupuncture but I'm not going to do it this time around, too much money! Here it costs me $90 a piece, not going to do it again. I didn't do it on my first nor second cycle but I did it with my third at CCRM, the numbers of eggs didn't change, number of blasts didn't change either, not 100% convinced with acu yet. Anyway, like Turtlemama said, I will probably do it for the transfer though, just to help my uterus relax, even though I did it for this past ET and nothing. So acu can't do miracles but it can't hurt either. That's my two cents :-)

Thanks for offering the Gonal F, I got some donation from my friend Jen and some from my nurse, I will e-mail you tomorrow once I talk to the pharmacy and see if I need more. Thanks so much for offering, that is very sweet and kind of you! xoxo

  4. Hi there. As you know, I am a strong believer in ACU and that my treatments and the treatment at CCRM as part of the FET is a big reason why it worked. As for trying to relax....focus on making everybpart of your body, one at a time, heavy on the table. If that doesn't work, envision your baby/babies in your life. It's time to have nothing but wonderful thoughts.

  5. I have a lot of trouble relaxing too. I try and try but I'm just not a very laid back kind of person. I do have to say though, I have enjoyed acupuncture and I do actually find I end up feeling a bit more relaxed after. It is super expensive though.

  6. I hope you find an acupuncturist you really connect with - that will make a HUGE difference. I didn't like the first guy i went to, but then I found a woman who was TOTALLY amazing. I definitely think you should at least do the pre/post acu treatments at CCRM, but acupuncture and eastern medicine in general is really more about long-term treatment... if you can find someone who you click with, I HIGHLY suggest making a weekly acupuncture appointment (or every other week, if money is the issue) a routine part of your life asap for this next cycle. Best of luck to you!

  7. I love acupuncture. I've yet to get pregnant but I've also yet to try IVF - scheduled tentatively in December. I find it incredibly relaxing and always fall asleep but I also have been lucky to find an acupuncturist who I trust...

    Lots of luck to you!

  8. Hey hun,
I understand the 'difficulty with relaxing' bit...I am a high stress person and while acupuncture helped me relax while I was laying there, afterwords I didn't notice a difference really. I did stop getting up to pee during the night, but otherwise, not so much. I did acupuncture weekly for about 1.5 years, including with IVF 2 times. I have since stopped bc of $$, but will likely do it pre/post IVF3 transfer only. Hope tomorrow relaxes you :)
